About the game

What is Bus Jam?

Bus Jam parks a lot full of coloured buses in front of a queue of passengers waiting on the road above. Tap a bus and it pulls into one of the boarding bays; only passengers of that same colour will climb aboard, and the number painted on the roof counts the seats it still has free. Fill a bus and it drives off, freeing its bay for the next one. You start with four bays — a fifth unlocks at level 19 — so the puzzle is choosing which colour to call while the queue keeps moving. Not every bus can move straight away: only one with a clear way out of the lot will pull out, some buses hide their colour behind a question mark until their path opens, and frozen buses show a number and stay put until the ice is gone.

STEP 1

Tap a bus to call it

Press any bus in the parking lot and it pulls out into a free boarding bay on the road.

STEP 2

Watch the seats count down

Passengers at the head of the queue board the bus that matches their colour, and the number on its roof drops with every one that gets on.

STEP 3

Keep a bay free

A full bus drives away and gives its bay back. Four bays is all you have at first, so call the colour the queue actually needs.

STEP 4

Free the way out

A bus can only leave the lot if nothing blocks its path to the road. Sometimes the right move is to call a different bus first just to clear the way.

Good to know

Is Bus Jam free to play?

Yes. It runs in your browser, with no download and no sign-up.

Why will nobody get on my bus?

Passengers only board a bus of their own colour, and only from the head of the queue. If the front of the queue is red, a green bus in a bay just sits there taking up space.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The whole game is built for a portrait screen, so tapping with a thumb works the same as clicking.

Why can't I tap some buses?

A bus only pulls out when it has a clear path to the road. If another bus is in the way, move that one first.

What are the buses with a question mark?

They are hidden buses. Their colour is revealed once they have a clear way out of the lot, so you may have to plan before you know what they carry.

What does a number on a frozen bus mean?

A frozen bus is iced in. It shows a number instead of its free seats and cannot leave until the ice is gone.

When do I get a fifth boarding bay?

The fifth bay unlocks at level 19. Until then you have four, so keeping one free is usually what saves a level.
